Lem Williams
Drummer

Lemuel D. Williams was born in Denver, Colorado. Influenced by his parents who are both musically talented (father is a top area gospel vocalist and mother sings backup for the legendary Gladys Knight),
he began playing thedrums at age seven without any training. Shortly after pickingup his first pair of drumsticks, Williams started playing for his grandfather’s church (Greater Mount Olive). But as he will point
out - singing is in his genes, but drumming is in his blood. By the age of 10, he was able to quickly learn a song and play it accurately. This skill propelled him into his craft and made him the energetic drummer he is today. His nickname, the “Drummagician,” was given to him by members of his audience.
In 1995, he relocated from his original church home to Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church. During this time, a local gospel newspaper recognized him as one of the “Top Five Best drummers in the Park Hill Area.”
Over the next several years, Williams enjoyed a myriad of drumming opportunities. His talent has taken him to Chicago, Atlanta, and New York to play for churches. He enjoys a very busy performing schedule, and is involved in many different music scenes, such as jazz, rhythm and blues, soul, pop, gospel and theater. He has played for Sheryl Renee, Michael Williams, Mean of Faith Gospel quartet, Lenny Kravitz Tribute Band, Altune &The Kool Kompany (his uncle), Summer Jam Concerts (Frankie J), Kollaboration Band and many others. The very first show ever at The Shadow Theater in 2008,
he was a part of the band. Lem has performed at numerous venues in Colorado, such as Jazz @ Jack’s, Herman’s Hideaway, QTO’s Pub in Littleton, Salida’s Fourth of July celebration, Keystone’s Jazz festival, and a number of others.
He currently is the drummer for the band Chase ‘N the Dream and the Denver Mass Choir. He also plays twice a month at Jazz @ Jack’s Tribute to the Legends show with Sheryl Renee.
His videos can be found on YouTube, with his artistic rendition of "Rock with You” by the late great Michael Jackson being a fan
favorite. The drummers that are influential to him consist of: Tony Royster Jr., Ronald Bruner Jr., Eric Moore II, Teddy Campbell and Dennis Chambers. Lem is the son of Lemuel P. Williams III and Antoinette Morgan. Of the seven children, five boys and two girls, Lem is the second oldest. His older brother is currently serving our country in Afghanistan. He also has two beautiful children, Isaiah and Aiyanna Williams.
